Gwil Owen is a Nashville-based singer/songwriter probably best known for the 30+ songs of his recorded by Austin, Texas singer Toni Price. His song “Tumbleweed” (sung by Toni Price) won “Song of the Year” at the 1996 Austin Music Awards.

 

He has also been nominated for an Academy Award for the song "A Soft Place to Fall” (written with Allison Moorer and featured in the Robert Redford film “The Horse Whisperer”), and had songs recorded by Keith Richards & Levon Helm (“Deuce and a Quarter,” written with Kevin Gordon), Little Feat & Jimmy Buffett (“Champion of the World,” written with Will Kimbrough), Irma Thomas, Todd Snider, Jack Ingram, and many others.

 

Gwil was a frequent collaborator with the late, great songwriter David Olney and recently produced the tribute album “Can’t Steal My Fire: The Songs of David Olney” on New West Records.

Gwil has also written many songs with Kevin Gordon, Will Kimbrough, Amelia White and others. He has released 11 albums and performs regularly in Austin, Texas.

In addition to his musical endeavors, Gwil is also a noted collage artist who shows his work regularly around Nashville.
